The Light Rail Transit Authority is close to finalizing the details for the planned Cogeo extension of the Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2). This extension project would add an extra stop after the recently erected Antipolo station, allowing the railway to service commuters in the upper section of Antipolo City.
In a report done by PhilStar, LRTA administrator Hernando Cabrera reportedly said to media that the consultant hired by the agency is expected to turn in the feasibility study for the Cogeo Extension Project this month. The LRTA can then convene with the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and discuss the feasibility study to determine whether or not the project should go live.

According to Cabrera, the feasibility study will indicate the amount of funding the project needs as well as the number of additional stations added to the LRT-2. In addition to providing information regarding the project, the consultant hired by the LRTA is also given the task of researching how many passengers will be serviced by the extension project.
The LRTA’s future plans for the LRT-2 include building three new stations east of the railway. This expansion will reduce the passenger volume that reaches its peak in Antipolo station, currently the final stop of the railway.
When the feasibility study reaches the LRTA, and is approved by the concerned agencies, the LRTA can proceed with building the railway extension project.
