After its initial debut in 2018, the fourth generation of Suzuki Jimny came only as a two-door version, which left fans wanting more. Since then, rumors have been circulating about a bigger five-door version being in the works at Suzuki. Before 2022 ended, speculation about the bigger Jimny’s launch in 2023 started surfacing online. Now, we can finally put these to rest because as it turns out, the rumors are correct.
Maruti Suzuki has officially taken the covers off of the new five-door Jimny at the Auto Expo 2023 in India. It is still the plucky ladder-frame off-roader that we love, but with the addition of two extra doors giving access to a larger interior cabin.

Now that we know that it’s here, let’s stack it against its smaller, 3-door version. Appearance-wise, the five-door version remains unchanged, except of course, that it looks longer when you look at it from the side. The 3-door Jimny that we get normally is 3,650 mm long, 1,645 mm wide, and 1,725 mm tall. On the other hand, the five-door is 3,985 mm long, 1,645 mm wide, and stands 1,720 mm tall. Nothing has changed on the matter of seating, it’s still a four-seater SUV, but, the additional 335 mm of length is sure to provide comfort for those sitting at the back.
Maruti Suzuki officially debuts the five-door Suzuki Jimny in India
It may not be here in the Philippines yet, but, we can rest easy knowing that the Jimny five-door finally exists.

Under the hood, the five-door Jimny keeps its original engine, the 1.5-liter K15B. This engine puts out 104 hp at 6,000 rpm and 134 nm of torque which is delivered through either a four-speed automatic transmission or a five-speed manual. Needless to say, it still gets a 4×4 drivetrain.
Underneath the car, it’s the same story. The SUV sits on top of 15-inch wheels wrapped in slim 195/80 R15 tires. Stopping the car are disc brakes at the front and drum brakes at the rear, while its suspension setup consists of three-link live axles with coil springs for the front and rear.
Looking inside the five-door Jimny, it’s business as usual for the offroader. Aside from the obvious extra rear legroom and wider cabin space, it seems that the interior is largely carried over from the standard Jimny. The looks and layout of the dashboard remain unchanged. Entertainment comes from a 9-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto paired with a four-speaker audio setup developed by Arkamys.
Aside from India, the new five-door Suzuki Jimny is set to launch in Latin America, Africa, and Australia. Don’t give up hope yet though, taking into account the fanbase that the standard 3-door Jimny has built here in the Philippines, the five-door version may join the Suzuki Philippines lineup in the near future.
