H0710008 Pamilyang Mahirap, Nadamay sa Sindikato Nakakakilabot na Kwento part2

Toyota is making big changes in its small MPV range of vehicles. Only recently, it was confirmed that the Avanza and Veloz are moving on from the traditional body-on-frame construction and rear-wheel drive configuration in favor of unibody and front-wheel drive platforms. Now, according to the Indonesian automotive news site OtoDriver, the Toyota Rush is next in line to get the front-wheel drive treatment.

When it was first sold in the Philippines in 2006 up to its second generation, the Toyota Avanza and Veloz before it was its own model, was rear-wheel drive and had a semi-unibody chassis, this meant that the front half of the chassis uses a ladder-frame while the remaining half used a monocoque construction. Unlike the Innova which was built on Toyota’s IMV platform used on the Fortuner and Hilux pickups. While it was weird, it gave the cars which use this setup notoriety for being capable of lifting heavy loads while maintaining an agreeable level of comfort.

With the third generation of the Avanza and the new Veloz being built on the Daihatsu New Global Architecture platform, this leaves the Toyota Rush as the sole MPV/Crossover still using the traditional rear-wheel drive and truck-style ladder platform configuration. According to a report from Indonesia however, the Rush might be following the Avanza and Veloz soon.

OtoDriver, an automotive news site from Indonesia reports that the next-generation Rush will also be transitioning to front-wheel-drive like the Avanza and Veloz. Its Daihatsu counterpart the Terios meanwhile, will supposedly retain the rear-wheel drive layout until 2027, when it will be replaced with a new front-wheel drive vehicle built on the Daihatsu New Global Architecture platform. It is still unknown if the Terios nameplate will continue on to the next generation or if it will be a separate model altogether.

The report from OtoDriver says that the current Toyota Rush will be here for a little while longer, so there’s no need to rush if you were eyeing to purchase Toyota’s small, seven-seater SUV.
