The Mazda CX-5 is perhaps one of the, if not, the best-selling model in the Mazda range today. As a compact five-seater crossover, the model has got to be one the most beloved compact in its class thanks to its killer good looks, great driving dynamics, and its upscale trimmings.

It is therefore ironic that Mazda would consider “discontinuing” the CX-5 nameplate, at least for international markets. Mazda delivered 1,116,107 vehicles last year, and 365,135 of those units were Mazda CX-5s. It’s a volume seller and the company’s best-selling product which is why we’re sad to hear that Mazda won’t be considering a third-generation model, at least based on what our sources claim.
According to Mazda’s CX-5 program manager, Mitsuru Wakiie, “I’m not sure whether we are going to introduce a CX-5 or not, so I can’t give you any details.” With the model receiving a new facelift for the 2023 model year and beyond, it’s safe to assume that we’ll be seeing more of the CX-5 for the time being. However, beyond the remaining few years, it’s unlikely that Mazda will continue to innovate with the nameplate.
Future generations of the CX-5 uncertain according to Mazda
Looks like the CX-5 won’t be seeing another generation in the future, to make room for roomier alternatives like the CX-50.

However, beyond the remaining few years, it’s unlikely that Mazda will continue to innovate with the nameplate.
All is not lost, however. For CX-5 fans or would-be CX-5 owners, don’t fret as the model is still plenty good by modern standards. It’s just that Mazda has launched quite a number of new models that eat into the category of the CX-5. Enter the CX-50, a more spacious compact crossover that is squarely in the third-generation product line of the Japanese brand.

Also, Mazda has the CX-60, which is now in production alongside the CX-50. These models have developed markets in mind for the time being, but chances are, we might be able to see Mazda Philippines bringing these new models sometime in the near to far future.
We’re still holding out hope that Mazda Philippines will introduce a successor to the CX-5 soon. However, given the facelift that we just got along with the 2.5-liter turbo motor as standard, it’s unlikely that the launch will happen this year. In the next year, however, we can’t say. Fingers crossed.
