Weeks ago, Hyundai teased their upcoming SUV with a sketch of the front fascia, fast forward to today and the automaker has provided more details about their new crossover for the A-segment. Smaller than the Creta and a bit larger than the Casper, the boxy Exter is part of Hyundai’s SUV lineup expansion. The Exter, which will be offered in India, slots itself nicely into the A-segment of crossovers.
Official photos of the Exter confirm the exterior design cues we’ve seen in the initial sketch shown weeks prior. First of these design cues are the H-shaped daytime running lights and the black grille enveloping the front. Inserted within the black grille are the Exter’s actual headlights, flanking the sides of the bumper.

At the sides, the Exter sports black fender flares which seem to connect to trim pieces underneath the door that then wraps around the whole car. The Exter stands on alloy wheels with a geometric-like design, continuing the boxy design of the car.
In addition to these images, details about the Exter’s specifications are also available. According to Hyundai, the Exter will be powered by an internal-combustion engine, which has an engine option that can run on compressed natural gas (CNG). The powertrains are a naturally-aspirated four-cylinder 1.2-liter engine. The gas-fueled variant provides 81 hp and 114 Nm of torque, with power driving the front wheels through a five-speed manual or an automated manual transmission (AMT). Meanwhile, the CNG version can put out 68 hp and 95 Nm of torque and only has a manual transmission option.

Currently, the Hyundai Exter will be exclusive to the Indian market. The Exter’s official launch and detailed specifications are expected around July 2023. Hyundai has hinted that its small crossover will be available in other markets in the future but has not provided exact dates for when exactly that will be.
