After taking their sweet time in advertising its arrival, Mazda has officially unveiled the CX-90, the brand’s new flagship SUV in North America. It is powered by a turbocharged inline-six engine, Mazda’s most powerful engine in history.
Under the hood of the CX-90 is a 3.3-liter e-SkyActiv turbocharged gasoline inline six-cylinder engine, According to Mazda, this engine has the highest horsepower and torque output from a mass-produced engine. The engine puts out 340 hp and 500 Nm of torque, in addition to the internal combustion power, the CX-90 has an electric motor in between the engine and transmission, effectively making it a mild-hybrid vehicle.

Appearance-wise, the CX-90 is undoubtedly a Mazda creation, the front fascia closely resembles the CX-60 but with a slightly wider lower grille with a chrome garnish and smoother side vents. Like the CX-60, the CX-90 carries Mazda’s “Kodo” design language, which gives the CX-90 a distinct overall appearance that incorporates a balanced blend of sharp lines and smooth, flowing curves. Completing the look are large 21-inch wheels that give emphasis to the vehicle’s size and increase its presence on the road.

What sets it apart from the rest of the Mazda lineup is its unique paint named Artisan Red. Mazda developed this particular tint of red specifically to suit the CX-90 and provide an air of sophistication on top of the car’s performance and refinement.
The interior of the CX-90 continues this trend of refinement and sophistication. Inside, passengers are enveloped in Nappa leather upholstery combined with other premium fabrics. The CX-90 follows the interior design of the smaller CX-90, with its minimalistic design, contrasting hues, and bits of shiny metal accent throughout the interior. The CX-90 is also fitted with a wide 12.3-inch infotainment system as well as a digital instrument cluster.
The new CX-90 is expected to reach North American dealers this spring. As of writing, Mazda has not provided any details if the CX-90 will be made available for other markets around the globe.
