The Department of Works and Highways has announced that there will be rehabilitation efforts for the two flyovers this December. Starting on December 2, 2022, the flyovers will be closed to motorists from 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM every day up until the end of the year, December 30, 2022. Motorists who frequent C5, and who travel at these times are advised to take alternate routes or to brace for heavy traffic.
If you’ve been on any of these flyovers in recent months, there are a few things that need to be addressed, like the asphalt quality and the general structure. The targeted fix of this rehabilitation project is the flyovers’ expansion joints. The agency is calling upon rehabilitation works on these areas of the structures in order to prevent potential accidents from happening.

While the MMDA has announced the suspension of all road works this holiday season, this project needs to push through because it is in the interest of safety for the general motoring public. Seeing as many motorists frequent these flyovers, it’s something that has to be addressed as soon as possible, albeit with rather unfortunate timing.
As for the details of the repair, sources report that the existing joints will be removed, and chipping works will also be conducted.
The repairs have already started since December 2, 2022, and motorists are expected to brace for heavier traffic in these areas until the end of the year. The flyovers will be open during the off and peak hours of the day to late afternoon, but motorists who will find themselves on these flyovers from 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM, are advised to find alternate routes to skip the traffic congestion that these rehabilitation works will bring.
